Visit me in BH 9406
Welcome! My name is Thomas Maierhofer, I’m a lecturer in the Department of Statistics & Data Science at the University of California, Los Angeles. Here is my faculty profile. My office is on the 9th floor of the Boelter Hall BH 9406. My research focuses on applied statistics, in particular in the fields of climate science, the life sciences, and education.
I am excited about the use of Large Language Models and how they can be used to improve undergraduate education. Currently, I am devloping ALISSTAIR (Artificial Language Intelligence System for Statistical Teaching Aid and Individualized Response), you can try it out here. Say hi and ask it how to compute a correlation coefficient and/or a linear regression. You’ll be amazed how much more useful it’s answer is in comparison to vanialla-chatGPT or Wikipedia.
I am happy to write letters of recommendation, please follow the guidelines.
